Chronic hepatitis infections are often asymptomatic, and it is imperative that the affected are aware of their condition, and hence can seek timely medical attention. The number of hepatitis B carriers currently being treated with any medication in BC is just over 2,000. According to the Asian population, this number should be far greater.
We invite you to participate in Hep Beware, a hepatitis B screening project, co-led by Dr. Francis Ho, BC Board President, Canadian Liver Foundation (CLF) and Dr. Peter Kwan, GI Specialist/Hepatologist at the Vancouver General Hospital. This project, which is offered free to Asians who are unaware of their hepatitis B status, is sponsored by the CLF, BC/Yukon Region through the support of our generous donors. The aim of this project is to estimate the magnitude of Asian hepatitis B carriers who are unaware of their carrier status, as well as to encourage early diagnosis, which will lead to early treatment. Your participation is voluntary. By doing a simple blood test, you will know if you are a hepatitis B carrier. You will then be encouraged to see your doctor for immediate follow up. If you would like to receive information about the Hep Beware Project, please call the CLF office at 604-707-6433. |
